Things We Don't Say IPA Release - A Cause Close to Our Hearts

YOU ARE NOT IN THIS ALONE.

When our friend Joel Frieders reached out to us about becoming part of the Craft Beer for Mental Health project, there was NO hesitation. Mental health is a topic far too often ignored in our industry, and while the question of “why” has many, MANY possible answers, the question of “what can we do?” starts with a simple one: TALK ABOUT IT.

A brief conversation around our own St. Charles brewery showed us that indeed most, if not ALL of us here have dealt with mental health in very personal ways, whether through family, friends, or our own experiences. Our big takeaway: NONE of us are in this ALONE.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The THINGS WE DON’T SAY: Craft Beer For Mental Health project was created to help shift how we approach mental health by encouraging people to talk about their experiences and feelings, both good and bad, and to demonstrate the importance of asking for help when we need it.

THINGS WE DON’T SAY: Craft Beer For Mental Health is a call to empower breweries from around the globe to use their platforms to stand up for those who suffer in silence with their mental health, be it with anxiety, depression, or other mental illness.

Named after Hope For The Day’s flagship mental health education curriculum, THINGS WE DON’T SAY: Craft Beer For Mental Health is a 6% IPA being released in May 2021, in conjunction with Hope For The Day’s Shake The Stigma awareness campaign for Mental Health Month 2021.

Join us, raise a pint, and for gosh sakes, talk about mental health.

The Women's EmPORTERment Project

WomenEmporterment - Purple final.jpg

At our brewery in St. Charles, we’ve been lucky enough to find ourselves surrounded by a strong group of women, some who are employed here, and others who support us at home and behind the scenes.

This year for International Women’s Day, many of these ladies gathered to brew a beer of their own design to raise awareness for the local St. Charles/Geneva/Batavia branch of Zonta International. With their objectives of “improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local level through service and advocacy,” Zonta’s ideals align heavily with ours at Riverlands.

The result of our women’s brew day releases this Friday, April 23. Women’s EmPORTERment is an American porter brewed with toffee, almond, and cacao nibs. At 7.2% ABV, this rich, chocolaty porter is our homage to the Heath brand candy bar, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Once canning is complete on 4/23, 4-packs will be available to-go at our St. Charles brewery or available for pre-order and curbside pickup at: bit.ly/riverlands. We’ll also have the beer on draft.

A portion of the profits from each 4-pack and draft sold will go to our local Zonta West club. We hope this humble donation will help empower local women in their daily and professional lives in some way.

Two Years in the Making: Kayak Pils

kayak-pils-01.jpeg

You might notice a bit of a change in our house pilsner this time around. What was once Yellow Kayak is now simply Kayak Pils. Why the change you ask? There are a couple reasons.

First, we haven't brewed a single batch of Yellow Kayak the exact same way twice.

It started off far more hoppy, and we’ve progressively sought more balance as time went on. After a while, the changes we continued to want to make to this beer were bringing it outside of the basic profile we'd established for it. It just didn't make sense to call it the same name.

Secondly, we knew we could do better.

We've put a heavy emphasis on lager brewing so far in 2021. We love these beers, and we've tirelessly researched (and taste tasted) them. German-style Pils specifically has been the beer we've most sought to perfect. We've adjusted our recipes, equipment, water profile, and most importantly our entire fermentation process for lagers to bring you the best versions of these beers we can brew.

That brings us to Kayak Pils.

I can't begin to describe the amount of love and attention that has been poured into the most subtle nuances of this beer. Did we reinvent the wheel here? Far from it. This tastes like a classic German Pils brewed with Hallertau hops, premium German Pilsner malts, and a quality German lager yeast. My German grandmother would be proud. We love this beer, and I sincerely hope you all do too.

Order a Kayak slow-pour style for the full Pils experience. Keep an eye out for more tasty lagers coming your way soon in addition to our usual output of tasty hops, stouts and sours.

Riverlands - Year Two Announcement

AnniversaryPoster - 2021.png

RIVERLANDS: YEAR TWO is almost upon us, and even though it may look a lot different this year, we aim to celebrate another year in St. Charles and, ultimately, surviving 2020.

Join us for ONE OF THREE SESSIONS on Saturday, March 13.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

  • Tickets for our anniversary party will go on sale around 12PM ON WEDNESDAY March 3rd via the webstore (bit.ly/riverlands).

  • NOTE: BOTTLE ONLY SALES will go online next week. Stay tuned for more bottle sale info.

  • Each party attendee receives: entrance to their two-hour session, three beer tickets good for any draft on the taplist, one (and only one) 5oz pour of Riverlands II Weller Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, a tour of our brewing space by one of our owners or brewing staff, and a 24k gold-rimmed 11.5oz commemorative Riverlands glass.

  • Sessions will run 12-2pm, 3-5pm, and 6-8pm. You and your party members may ONLY attend ONE session. We want to give as many people a shot at celebrating as possible.

  • Tickets for each session are sold BY THE TABLE at $40 per person. This will allow us to maximize our space with fewer vacant seats.

  • TICKETS AVAILABLE: single bar seat tickets (very limited), two-, three-, four-, and six-person tables. You MUST purchase all tickets for an entire table together, as they’ll be listed as ONE PRICE (i.e. a two-person table is $80). Be sure your party knows who the reservation is made under if arriving separately. There will be NO REFUNDS if your table isn't full at the event.

  • Each party attendee has an option of buying up to TWO BOTTLES of Riverlands II Imperial Stout on the day of the event at $25 per bottle, not included in the ticket price. No need to worry about our online bottle sale! In fact, please don’t so that more folks can enjoy this beer.

  • Grab a killer smashburger from A BIKER DUDE while you're here! We suggest ordering early so you have plenty of time to eat. Food not included in ticket price.

  • About 20 minutes before your session ends, you'll receive last call to purchase any additional beer to-go and get closed out. At the end of your session, please leave promptly so we can reset for the next round.

EVENT RULES:

  • This event is strictly 21-and-over. Get a sitter and enjoy!

  • Masks are REQUIRED any time guests are not seated.

  • Tables and chairs are spaced appropriately and deliberately. Please do NOT move them.

  • There will be NO OUTDOOR SPACE, INDOOR STANDING ROOM, or MINGLING. Please remain at your assigned table with your party except to order beer, use the restroom, and enjoy your tour.

  • The taproom will be CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC during the entirety of day, except for to-go beer.

COVID CONCERNS:

We take our guests’ and staff members’ health seriously and fully intend to provide the safest experience possible. Some of the enhanced COVID practices we’ll be adhering to during this event include:

  • Masks required in the taproom by all staff and guests any time they are not seated

  • Tables spaced more than 6’ apart in all directions

  • Limiting the number of guests to under the 50 person limit total for private events

  • No parties over six people (lower than the 10 person recommendation)

  • Event held in large, open area with high ceilings and appropriate ventilation

  • Enhanced cleaning and sanitation of all common areas on a regular basis
